This notice explains what personal data StudyAbroad.ac collects, why, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and in plain English.
Who we are
StudyAbroad.ac is published by the London School of Leadership, Investment, and Technology Ltd (LSLIT), a private limited company registered in England and Wales (company number 13622178), registered office 14 Gyosei Gardens, Willen Park, Milton Keynes, MK15 9EN, England. LSLIT is the data controller for this website.
Questions about your data: email privacy@studyabroad.ac.
What we collect
- When you browse: information from your device and browser, such as pages viewed, approximate location (from your IP address), device type and the page that sent you here. Some of this is collected through cookies (see below).
- When you contact us or fill in a form (for example to ask about mentorship, apply for GetPhDReady or write for us): the details you give us, such as your name, email address, phone number, study plans and anything you write in the form.
- When you sign up for our newsletter: your email address and the date you signed up and confirmed.
- When you leave a comment: your name, email address, comment and IP address. Comments are checked for spam by Akismet.
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, passport numbers, bank details or health information through this website.
How we use it, and our legal basis
- To run the website and keep it secure — our legitimate interests in operating a working, safe site.
- To reply to you and provide the service you asked for (for example a free consultation or a bootcamp application) — to take steps you have asked for, or our legitimate interests in answering enquiries.
- To send the newsletter — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email.
- To measure how the site is used (Google Analytics) and to show advertising (Google AdSense) — your consent where the law requires it (see Cookies).
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use three kinds:
- Strictly necessary — needed for the site to work, for example to remember your cookie choices or keep you logged in. These do not need consent.
- Analytics — Google Analytics tells us which pages are read and how people find us, so we can improve the site.
- Advertising — Google AdSense and its partners show the adverts that help keep StudyAbroad.ac free to read.
Your choice. If you visit from the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you will see a consent message from Google the first time you visit. You can accept, refuse (“Do not consent”) or choose by purpose (“Manage options”). Refusing does not stop you using the site; you may still see adverts, but they will not be personalised. You can change your choice at any time using the Privacy and cookie settings link on the site.
Advertising and Google
We use Google AdSense to show adverts. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site using their own cookies. The full list of these partners is shown in the consent message under Manage options › Vendors, with a link to each one’s website and privacy information.
You can opt out of personalised advertising:
- from Google, in Google My Ad Center (formerly Ads Settings, google.com/settings/ads);
- from many other vendors, at aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe and the UK, youronlinechoices.com.
To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Adverts on StudyAbroad.ac are labelled “Advertisement”. Sponsored content and affiliate links, if we use them, will always be clearly labelled.
Embedded content from other sites
Some pages include content from other websites, such as YouTube videos, Google Fonts and Gravatar profile pictures. These work as if you visited the other site directly: the provider may receive your IP address and set its own cookies. Their own privacy notices apply.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, and only as much as they need:
- our website host, Namecheap;
- Google (Analytics, AdSense and Site Kit);
- Google Forms and Google Sheets, where answers to our Mentorship form are stored so our admissions team can contact you;
- Automattic (Akismet spam protection for comments);
- our email service, when the newsletter launches;
- LSLIT mentors and admissions advisers, if you ask us for mentorship or a consultation.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
International transfers
Some of our providers, such as Google, process data outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries and form submissions: up to 24 months after our last contact with you, unless you become a mentee.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Comments: for as long as the comment is published.
- Analytics data: 14 months (set in Google Analytics).
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to: give you a copy of your data; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to how we use it; and move it to another provider. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To make a request, email privacy@studyabroad.ac. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Children
StudyAbroad.ac is written for students preparing for university study and is not aimed at children under 13. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before sending us your details through a form.
