Transforming Public Health Leadership in Africa: Apply for the Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme

We are thrilled to bring to your attention the transformative initiative launched by the African Union Commission – the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) – Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme. This visionary program, inaugurated on May 25, 2020, in collaboration with the Kofi Annan Foundation, aims to revolutionize public health leadership across the African continent.

The Kofi Annan Fellowship in the Global Health Leadership Programme is a testament to the commitment of the African Union to fostering a new era in public health. Approved by the Governing Board of Africa CDC in March 2018, this program has been instrumental in shaping senior public health professionals from African Union Member States into leaders who not only contribute to but also lead the implementation of a new public health order for Africa.

Reflecting on the remarkable progress of the program, we take pride in having graduated 39 Fellows from over 20 AU Member States. Currently, we are training 20 more from 14 Member States, each of whom is making tangible contributions to healthcare across the continent. The alumni of this program are actively engaged in leading national programs, replicating leadership initiatives in their institutions, and even assuming Government Ministerial positions. The ripple effect of this leadership program is undeniable, and its impact is resonating throughout the healthcare landscape of Africa.

As we look toward the future, we are excited to share the news with you that applications for the 4th Cohort of the Fellowship program are now open. This presents a unique opportunity for you, as a member of our esteemed community, to be part of this transformative journey. The deadline for submission is January 30, 2024.
